Lake Eustis Kennel Club
Located in the town of Lady Lake, Florida
The Lake Eustis Kennel Club is pleased to announce that it will host its first ever
Scent Work Trials, March 23, 2018, 9:00AM - 4:00PM,
in the Clements Building at the Lake County Fair Grounds.
There will be two Trials in Novice and Advanced Interior, Exterior and Buried.
Scent Work is a new dog sport started this year by the American Kennel Club that highlights the canine’s exquisite sense of smell. As described on the AKC website (www.AKC.org/scent work):
“AKC Scent Work is a sport that mimics the task of working detection dogs to locate a scent and communicate to the handler that the scent has been found. Scent Work is a positive, challenging activity that allows dogs the opportunity to use their strongest natural sense in a way that is fun, engaging, and that builds and strengthens a foundation of trust between the handler and dog.”
Any breed of dog of any age can excel at this sport. It is particularly pleasing to note that Scent Work, for both dog and handler, does not require speed nor agility. Many have dogs who have earned titles in other venues and are ready to slow down a bit. Scent Work seems to be a wonderful way to keep dogs active by involving them in a sport that is most natural for them.
Spectators are welcome! Entry and parking are free of charge.
